2027 PROGRAM

Why is it called the Klesmer Festival?

The name is a nod to the historic Wandermusikanten of Salzgitter, known as the “Klesmer.” In the 19th century, they traveled from Salzgitter out into the world. Klezmer, on the other hand, refers to the traditional instrumental festive music of Jewish communities in Eastern Europe. The festival draws on local history while also opening the stage to music from around the world.
