To kick off its anniversary year, the Städtische Museum Schloss Salder has already presented the highly acclaimed exhibition “From ‘You’ to ‘We’” about the arrival and new beginnings of the approximately 1.8 million refugees and displaced persons in Lower Saxony during the postwar period.
The exhibition concludes on Sunday, June 28, with a special concert: At the invitation of the City of Salzgitter’s Cultural Affairs Department, pianist and conductor Christoph Soldan and the Silesian Chamber Soloists will perform. After a joint tour, Leonard Bernstein said of Christoph Soldan: “I am impressed by the spiritual greatness of this young musician.”
This successful string ensemble brings together the section leaders of the Silesian Philharmonic Orchestra of Katowice. Since their founding in 1993, these five outstanding instrumentalists have performed at Europe’s most prestigious music festivals and have collaborated with other leading artists such as Krzysztof Penderecki, Yehudi Menuhin, Christoph Eschenbach, Pinchas Zuckerman, Maxim Vengerov, and Mstislav Rostropovich.
The audience will hear what happens when an instrumentalist arranges hits from the 1960s for his own chamber ensemble: pieces composed with great care, in which listeners will recognize both catchy pop tunes and great classical music. For example, one of the works begins with Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings, then transitions to “Somebody to Love” by Queen, and concludes by returning to Tchaikovsky.
A special crossover project that guests can look forward to.
