The name Duo Alkyone is inspired by the figure of Alkyone from Greek mythology, who, according to legend, was transformed into a bird—the kingfisher. Zeus commanded the sun to appear so that Alkyone could lay her eggs in the middle of winter. This bird brings moments of peace and sunshine—the so-called Alcyonian days (kingfisher days)—and is considered a symbol of light. As a migratory bird, it is constantly on the move…
Like this bird, the duo Alkyone views music as a journey and seeks, through its music, to bring light to distant landscapes and to the inner spiritual landscapes of its listeners.
The duo was founded in Hanover and is developing its career in the heart of Europe and Latin America. It is regularly invited to renowned festivals in Belgium, Germany, and Greece and is a grant recipient of the Goethe-Institut and the Wallonia-Brussels Federation.
The program “Stories from the Night” invites the audience into the world of twilight, where the imagination awakens, dreams whisper their secrets, and poetry and music merge. The voices of the cello and piano are joined by the spoken word, guiding listeners through the mysteries of the night—its reveries, its passions, and its fantasies.
In the Fürstensaal.
