B 6: Demolition and new construction of the bridge near Salzgitter-Bad

The existing B-6 bridge in Salzgitter crosses two district roads and the railroad line from Salzgitter-Bad to Ringelheim. It has to be demolished and rebuilt. The Lower Saxony State Authority for Road Construction and Transport is responsible for this.

This has set up a project page on the homepage strassenbau.niedersachsen.de:

When will it be demolished?

Demolition of the old bridge will begin in 2025. The challenge: unlike newer bridges, the current bridge does not consist of two parts, but is a single structure.

If everything goes according to plan during demolition, work on the new bridge will begin in the same year. Construction is currently expected to take two and a half years.

What will the new bridge look like?

The successor to the old bridge will consist of two substructures. And the new structure will be wider: there will be three lanes in each direction of travel - the continuous right-hand lane will not only serve as an acceleration and deceleration lane, but also as an intersection lane for local traffic.
