The Board of Trustees of the Endlager Konrad Stiftungsgesellschaft mbH, chaired by Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel, has now approved funding totaling 850,000 euros for 84 applications.
"The group of project sponsors receiving funding is once again broad and ranges from choral societies, shooting clubs, allotment garden associations, school clubs and voluntary fire departments to a wide variety of sports clubs.
I find it impressive that there are always first-time applications. These come from clubs and non-profit associations that have not yet applied for funding or that are still completely "new". This shows how lively our urban society is and also explains why one meeting is not enough to conclusively evaluate and decide on all applications for funding," says Klingebiel.
Over 50 applications were deferred due to the need for further information and consultation and will be dealt with in a second meeting at the end of September.
The funding amounts that will be distributed are as varied as the funding projects.
53 project grants, or around two thirds, are less than 10,000 euros. They range from 300 euros for sports equipment for the Reha- und Gesundheits-Sportverein Salzgitter-Bad e.V. to around 10,000 euros for the purchase of protective equipment for the motorcycle squadron of the Salzgitter branch of Johanniter Unfallhilfe to 55,000 euros for a measuring trailer including measuring technology for running events for SV Glück Auf 1901 Gebhardshagen e.V.
Klingebiel commented: "I am delighted that since the fund was established in 2011, which I negotiated with the then Federal Environment Ministers Sigmar Gabriel and Norbert Röttgen, we have now been able to support almost 900 projects with a total of 22 million euros with the funding already approved for this year. It is clear that many projects could not have been implemented by the associations and institutions without the funding from the Konrad-Fonds. However, these funds are merely an "initial spark" for the all-important voluntary work in our city. It is also clear that these projects would not have been possible without the fantastic voluntary work and its outstanding activities. I would like to thank the many volunteers who, with their extraordinary commitment, not only maintain the tried and tested, but never tire of breaking new ground, developing themselves further and thus making an enormously important contribution to our community!"
