"Workshop Fake News": Which news is true, which is false? André Greco, media educator from the city of Salzgitter, gave a vivid presentation at the Fredenberg vocational school (BBS). 31 pupils and three teachers dealt with the risks and dangers of the internet and artificial intelligence (AI). The pupils learned how to recognize AI-generated content and were made aware of fake news and the motives behind it.
"Escape room": The youth and democracy education team spent several days at BBS Fredenberg to offer an "escape room" from the "Politik zum Anfassen e.V." association. Around 300 pupils from various grades discovered the Basic Law in a playful way and were then able to test their knowledge on the wheel of fortune. The Gymnasium am Fredenberg then offered the "Escape Room" to test the knowledge of its pupils.
The performances of the prevention theater "Mensch, Theater", which was performed in the Kulturscheune on one day, were just as vivid and practical. The play "Meine, Deine, Unsere Welt!" focused on racism, prejudice and xenophobia. The special thing about it: The seventh-grade students were able to actively help determine the plot. "The young people were very involved. They observed the situations portrayed, discussed them and named the wrong behavior. The young people also discussed their own experiences and took away a lot for their everyday lives and interactions with each other," says Alexandra Leszczynski, project manager in the Youth and Democracy Education team.
The play was followed by educational theater workshops in small groups. The topics addressed were reflected on and explored in greater depth. A total of 200 pupils from IGS Salzgitter, Hauptschule am Fredenberg, Hauptschule an der Klunkau, Hauptschule Thiede and Gymnasium am Fredenberg took part.
On two further days, the "Mensch, Theater!" ensemble performed the play "Meine, Deine, Unsere Welt - Mobbing" at BBS Fredenberg. A total of 360 pupils aged 16 and over watched the play on the subject of bullying and explored the topics in greater depth in the workshops that followed. Strategies against bullying were developed together. The topics of prejudice and racism were also discussed. A total of four performances and twelve workshops were offered.
"The events were well received by everyone involved. The pupils discussed and asked questions. The exchange was enriching for everyone," says Bernadeta Kocot-Miczka, head of the Youth and Democracy Education team in the Municipal Children and Youth Promotion department of the City of Salzgitter's Children, Youth and Family Service. All participants expressed their desire to repeat the event next year.
