As part of the "ABC Reading" campaign, prospective first graders receive a voucher at their school entry check-up at the health department. With this voucher, they receive a reading starter set when they register at all three branches of the Salzgitter City Library.

This includes a free library card, which the children can use to get started straight away and borrow their favorite book. It also often contains an additional little something as well as information for the parents.

Pupils who have just started school and do not yet have a library card can also enjoy this gift! As part of the project, the Salzgitter City Library also invites all first grade classes to explore the library for the first time with our staff and find out where things are located. Each child receives the reading starter set - because this way we can also reach the children who have not yet been able to visit us with their parents.

The library is convinced that this campaign will inspire many families in Salzgitter to read (aloud). "ABC Reading" offers parents an uncomplicated way to encourage early childhood reading. The library wants all children in Salzgitter to experience how much fun there is in books. The free reading starter kits are intended to encourage parents to awaken a lasting love of books in their children - because this love of books is a gift for life.
