Reading aloud takes center stage - 20th anniversary of "Salzgitter reads aloud"
A project of the city library and the Catholic Family Education Center Salzgitter to promote language and reading in kindergartens and elementary school.
25 reading mentors read once a week in kindergartens and elementary school or meet for reading sessions in the city libraries. The choice of books is determined by the mentors in consultation with the institutions. Inessa Schönberger from the Salzgitter Family Education Center and Vasiliki Treskas from the city library are responsible for the project and support the reading mentors.
Aims of the project:
- Awakening a love of reading in children, promoting reading motivation
- To improve children's language skills by reading aloud
- To provide a meaningful, manageable and supervised offer for people who are involved on a voluntary basis
- Bringing different age groups into conversation with each other (multi-generational principle)
Thank you to the reading mentors:
- Free reading pass from the city library
- Free participation in all accompanying events and training courses for the reading mentor project
