The Literarische Gesellschaft Salzgitter e.V. was founded in March 2013 to play its part in promoting art and culture, and literature in particular, in Salzgitter and the surrounding area.

On the one hand, the aim was to continue the successful reading series "Zeit zum Zuhören" ("Time to Listen") organized by the Literature Office in the City of Salzgitter's Department of Culture - which was discontinued for a year - and on the other hand, the aim of the association is to conceive and realize literary events with various cooperation partners. Since the beginning of 2017, "Zeit zum Zuhören" has found a "new home" in the city library in Salzgitter-Lebenstedt.

The readings , which usually take place on the first Wednesday of the month , focus on a topic or a writer with literary texts.
