JiG - mobile youth work in Salzgitter

Mobile and outreach youth work (JIG) is intended to complement other youth welfare services, in particular open child and youth work.

Mobile and outreach youth work (JIG) is intended to complement other youth welfare services, in particular open child and youth work.

The "Youth in the Community" team is aimed at young people for whom public and semi-public spaces are an important part of their lives, especially those who are not reached by other support services or who reject them.

Through its work, the team aims to support the integration of young people in the urban area, provide them with educational support in their free time and be a reliable point of contact for everyday difficulties and problems.

Main areas of work

The aim is to reach young people who spend their free time in public places and meeting points in the city and who are unable or unwilling to take advantage of other support services.

The work focuses on supporting individual young people and youth cliques, guiding them towards activating leisure activities and offering assistance in their private, school and professional lives.

In order to reach these young people, the teams move around the Lebenstedt / Fredenberg, Bad and Thiede districts, seeking out places in public and semi-public spaces where young people hang out. These places can be parks, sports areas, lively and quieter public spaces and, of course, schools in the mornings. We develop attractive leisure activities together with the young people, accompany them and are available as contact persons.

The aim of this long-term work is to establish ourselves as a low-threshold support service for the target group and to be able to provide support with internal group, family, school and developmental problems or simply to provide new food for thought for decisions and broaden perspectives.

In addition, we also try to mediate problems in the relationship between groups and their environment and, together with other network partners in the community, create a climate of mutual acceptance between young people and adults.

The contact point in the Forellenhof youth culture workshop, Forellenweg 10, 38226 Salzgitter, complements the range of services and offers a variety of support options for young people.
