Our offer
Within this framework, "JugendWerk. Start" offers preparatory and day-structuring measures in the skilled trades of carpentry, stone and design, construction technology and electrical engineering. Here, the young people acquire basic vocational and social qualifications and receive socio-educational guidance and support, advice and training.
The youth workshop has been in existence since 1990 (until 2025 under the name "JoB") and sees itself as a place of opportunity where young people can gain lots of practical experience for everyday life and acquire life skills.
Young people who have slipped through the school system due to individual challenges and difficulties, who have difficulties starting a career or who have an increased need for support are met where they are in their current development and situation and are offered structure and a safe framework.
The youth workshop is aimed at young people aged 15 to 25 with multiple barriers to integration and special support needs.
These include, among others
- unemployed young people with poor or no school qualifications
- with a lack of motivation to learn and/or poor social skills
- young migrants, especially those who have experienced flight and need guidance
- young people who are required to attend vocational school and are particularly dependent on socio-educational support
- young people with psychosocial difficulties, learning disabilities and developmental disorders
- young people in crisis situations
- young people who have become delinquent
- young people with addiction problems
The prerequisite for participation is that no vocational or school education is possible at the time of placement in the youth workshop and that the personal requirements according to SGB II or SGB VIII are met.
The goal:
The central aim of the youth workshop is to improve the living conditions of these young people so that they can lead a self-determined, autonomous and independent life.
The support services are always designed and implemented in accordance with the wishes and goals of the young people. This includes preparing young people for the basics of employability and enabling them to face their developmental challenges.

Focus on wood
Here, the young participants gain an insight into different work processes in a joinery and learn the basic knowledge and skills of working with wood.
The workstations in the carpentry workshop are equipped with all the typical tools for working with wood by hand. In addition, the youth workshop also has various woodworking machines such as a sliding table saw, jointer, thickness planer and table milling machine, which can be used to work on a wide variety of projects.
The program includes, for example, small pieces of furniture, frames, boxes or various play equipment that can be created with the participants
Focus on stone and design
In this area, creativity, perseverance and precision are required above all. Participants learn the basics of design such as grid enlargement, proportions, lettering or color theory and can then test their skills in stonemasonry and stone sculpting. Here, participants can realize their own ideas in different ways.
Everything is possible, from drawing and painting to working with clay and plaster (e.g. relief, full sculpture) to working stone with hand tools (e.g. working surfaces, surface treatment, carving lettering, relief work, sculptures).
Design workshop
Here, young people learn basic carpentry and construction technology skills. The program includes woodworking with hand tools and manual machines (such as surface treatment, creating wooden joints or building stud frames), as well as interior finishing and drywall construction (for example, building substructures, working with plasterboard, filling techniques and minor painting work (such as painting walls).
Electrical engineering
From simple circuits with switches and lamps, as are common in building wiring, to stripping and stripping wires and cables, crimping plug connections and soldering more complex circuits on circuit boards, everything in the field of electricity and electronics is possible here.
What are capacitors, coils or astable tilt stages or how do transistors or random dice work? We try to find the answers to all these questions very practically and together with the young people.
