Joint care

Advice and support on issues relating to joint custody is offered free of charge by the specialist service for children, young people and families.

Who can get advice?

  • Parents who are not married to each other
  • Mothers or fathers with whom the child lives

Parental custody

Both parents are entitled to joint custody of their child if they declare this in writing. This declaration can also be made before the child is born.

If no declaration is made, the mother has sole custody by law.

The notarization can be made at the Youth Welfare Office by appointment.

Necessary documents

  • Valid identity card or passport of the parties involved
  • the child's birth certificate, if available
  • acknowledgement of paternity

Negative certificate

On request, the Youth Welfare Office will certify to the child's mother whether a declaration of joint custody exists (so-called negative certificate).

We take our time for the personal consultation. It is therefore essential that you make an appointment in advance.
