Paternity

Advice and support to clarify paternity is offered free of charge by the specialist service for children, young people and families.

Who can get advice?

Parents who are not married to each other
The father of a child is legally the man

  • who is married to the mother at the time of birth or
  • who has recognized paternity in a document or
  • whose paternity has been established by a court.

The paternity of the child can be recognized before or after the birth at the youth welfare office. The mother's consent is required for the acknowledgment of paternity to be effective.

Notarization can be carried out by appointment at the Youth Welfare Office.

Necessary documents:

  • Valid identity card or passport of the parties involved
  • the child's birth certificate, if available

If the child's father is not prepared to acknowledge paternity voluntarily in the form of a deed, it is possible to set up a guardianship for your underage child.
