The plant fire department is currently still busy with extinguishing the fire.
There is a slight odor nuisance from the extinguished fire. However, this is no longer comparable to the odor nuisance from yesterday's (November 5) fire.
At present, the wind direction in this area is to the east.
Hazardous substance measurements were carried out by the fire department.
No hazards for the population were identified.
Review of the events on November 5
The Salzgitter AG plant fire department called on the municipal fire department for support.
In addition to the Salzgitter AG plant fire department, a station of the Salzgitter professional fire department as well as a fire-fighting train, a water delivery train, the hazardous goods train including the "Measuring and Sensing" specialist group and the "Information, Communication" specialist group of the Salzgitter volunteer fire department and the THW Salzgitter for logistical support were deployed.
The extinguishing work is still ongoing and the end is not yet in sight. The fire department has the situation under control.
The fire department asked the population in the districts around Salzgitter AG (including via the warning app "NINA") to keep windows and doors closed!
The cloud of smoke drifted eastwards between the city of Braunschweig and the district of Wolfenbüttel.
