With the climate protection concept, the city of Salzgitter has created a strategic basis and planning aid for the continuous implementation of the city's climate protection policy.
In 2013, the Merkwatt office was commissioned to draw up the climate protection concept. This was followed by various measures. The public, politicians, businesses and the administration were intensively involved in the process.
The climate protection concept examines the sectors of private households, industry, commerce, trade and services, transport, municipal properties, street lighting, wastewater and waste. To this end, an updatable energy and CO2 balance sheet was drawn up and potentials for energy savings and the production of renewable energies were identified. From this, concrete climate protection measures can be derived, which were evaluated in terms of their impact and cost-effectiveness. An action plan for the coming years was drawn up, taking into account local conditions and planning.
The population, the business community and local politicians were involved in the concept phase so that the concept is tailored to the circumstances and needs of the city of Salzgitter and thus acceptance for its implementation was created.
