The Citizens' Services, Foreigners' Affairs and Elections Department would like to point out that driving licenses issued in the years 1999 to 2001 inclusive must be exchanged by the deadline of 19.01.2026.
For those in possession of an EU driving license issued from 2002 onwards, the deadlines will end in stages over the coming years.

How do I exchange my driver's license?
Citizens who wish to have their driving license exchanged require an appointment at the Salzgitter car service park.
This appointment can be booked via the website of the city of Salzgitter (see "Online appointment allocation" below) or by calling the hotline 05341/839-3000.
The following documents must be brought along to the booked appointment:
- valid identity document (identity card, passport)
- current biometric photograph
- the current driving license
- a fee of 32.90 euros, as the completed driving license is sent directly to the citizen; a second appointment for collection is therefore not necessary (EC card payment is possible in the car service park)
- Only for paper driver's licenses if the driver's license was not issued in Salzgitter: Request a copy of the driver's license card from the issuing authority before submitting the application and have it sent to the driver's license office of the city of Salzgitter.
