During a speech therapy consultation, your child's level of performance in the areas of hearing, speech and vision is determined.
Further findings are evaluated. Hearing is assessed for orientation purposes.
Those affected and their guardians will be advised.

Appointments for the consultation day for hearing, speech and vision counseling are made via the responsible employees at the health department.

To plan the consultation day, we need the following documents from you in advance :

• Current speech therapy report
• ENT/pediatric audiology report
• Kindergarten report and development reports, if available
• School reports / if applicable, assessment notice on special educational support needs
• Report from the early intervention center, if available
• Report from a social pediatric center / SPC or child and adolescent psychiatrist, if available
• the completed registration form
• the signed confidentiality agreement

You are welcome to send us these documents by post, fax or email. We require the original of the release from confidentiality.

The consultation is free of charge. A doctor's prescription or referral is not required.

The primary tasks are diagnostics, counseling and help planning for children with hearing or visual impairments or children with severe speech impairments (§ 35 SGB IX).

Recommendations are made for therapy and/or special support:

• Visits to medical specialists
• technical aids
• Early detection and early intervention
• outpatient speech therapy
• Accompanying therapies
• Speech therapy in special clinics, institutes or speech therapy kindergartens
• The results are summarized in a consultation report

Yes, a trusted person can accompany you and your child to the examination.

Yes, of course both persons with custody are welcome to take part in the examination.

On behalf of social welfare providers and health insurance companies, the necessary reports are drawn up by the speech and language therapist of the state of Lower Saxony together with the doctor from the health authority (§ 35 SGB IX). The progress of the therapy is monitored.

The following options exist for speech therapy in special kindergartens:

• Speech therapy kindergarten (as partial inpatient speech therapy treatment)
• Kindergarten for the hearing impaired (as part-time inpatient speech therapy)
• Speech therapy in speech therapy centers (as inpatient speech therapy treatment)
