The yellow garbage can enables sustainable, environmentally friendly and citizen-friendly collection and emptying by the SRB Salzgitter. When using the yellow bags in the past, it was increasingly found that they can be easily damaged, e.g. by wind, animals or improper disposal. This leads to soiling in the city of Salzgitter. Yellow garbage cans help to remedy this situation. Yellow garbage cans are reusable, whereas yellow bags can only be used once.

Collection, sorting and recycling is organized nationwide by the dual systems and financed by the manufacturers and retailers. For you as the end consumer, this means that you have already paid for the disposal and recycling of the packaging when you purchase the packaged goods. You therefore incur no further costs for the yellow garbage cans.

No, no order is required for the installation of the yellow garbage can. The yellow garbage can is distributed automatically by an external service provider without prior notification. You do not need to be present in person to set up the garbage cans.

The SRB Salzgitter is very sorry if the installation of the yellow garbage can at your location leads to space problems. However, the situation on the property is the legal responsibility of the property owner, so unfortunately we cannot influence this.

SRB Salzgitter introduces the yellow garbage can as a subcontractor for the "Dual Systems" in the city of Salzgitter. The initial distribution and installation of your yellow garbage can is system-dependent and determined by the "Dual Systems" in this form.

There are two sizes of yellow garbage cans with a capacity of 240 liters and 1,100 liters. No other container sizes are planned.

For properties that have not yet had a yellow garbage can, the number of newly delivered yellow garbage cans per property is based on the residual waste containers registered with you. You will receive one 240-liter yellow garbage can per residual waste container (20 liters to 240 liters). For a 660 liter and 770 liter residual waste garbage can you will receive one 1,100 liter yellow garbage can and for each 1,100 liter residual waste garbage can you will receive two 1,100 liter yellow garbage cans.

There is currently no need for action at the waste container locations where yellow garbage cans are already in place. No further yellow garbage cans will be set up here as part of the initial distribution.

If the lid of your new yellow garbage can does not close completely flush, there is no need to worry. Transport and storage can cause temporary deformation of the material of the garbage can lid. Please give the garbage can a few days - the lid usually adjusts quickly and then closes again as usual.

The 1,100 liter yellow garbage can is generally only intended for certain commercial units or larger residential complexes. It may also be suitable where the quantity of 240 liter containers together equals the volume of a 1,100 liter yellow garbage can. This is the case if at least five 240-liter bins have been set up at one location.

You have the option of using the yellow garbage can together with your neighbor. The prerequisite for this is that both parties agree on the bin location and the provision on the day of emptying during use.

You can also leave most of the packaging in the stores when you go shopping. In this case, you can of course return your container. The use of the yellow garbage can is not obligatory. However, according to the Packaging Act (§13 VerpackG) and the Closed Substance Cycle Waste Management Act, consumers are legally obliged to dispose of packaging waste separately from residual waste.

The return of your yellow garbage can is only possible with this prior application and is free of charge.

The garbage can exchange and return may take some time.

The yellow garbage cans will be distributed in stages by an external service provider in the 4th quarter of 2025. The SRB does not guarantee that the external service provider will meet the delivery dates.

The aim of the SRB is to have all yellow garbage cans fully installed in the city of Salzgitter by 01.01.2026.

If you have not received a yellow garbage can after the basic distribution, it is possible to reorder the yellow garbage can in writing from the owner or management of the property. The annual distribution of yellow recycling bags will no longer be carried out in future. The distribution points for yellow recycling bags will be abolished from 01.01.2026. The last collection of yellow recycling bags will take place on 31.12.2025. From 01.01.2026, only the yellow garbage cans are to be used. Any remaining yellow bags can be used up until then, but please do not use them after that. Disposal of lightweight packaging via other waste containers is not permitted.

The yellow garbage can is intended exclusively for sales packaging made of plastic, metal and composite materials.

This includes

• Plastic films - carrier bags, bags, wrapping films
• Plastic bottles - for washing-up liquids, detergents and personal care products
• Plastic cups - for dairy products, margarine
• Foamed packaging - polystyrene
• Metals - canned goods, closures, aluminum trays, aluminum lids, aluminum foils
• Composite materials - drinks and milk cartons, vacuum packaging

Please dispose of empty packaging waste ("spoon clean") loose in the yellow garbage can. Beverage cartons can be compressed to save space. Please do not stack packaging made of different materials.

Do not put in the yellow bag:

• Glass and paper
• Residual waste or food scraps (e.g. baby diapers, other hygiene articles and spoiled food)
• Electrical appliances, batteries, textiles
• Construction waste or bulky waste (e.g. wallpaper remnants and carpet)
• Plastic containers that are not packaging (e.g. bowls, tubs, buckets) and other plastic items (e.g. clothes hangers, toothbrushes)
• Plastic toys
• Items from the kitchen (frying pan, saucepan, cutlery)
• Disposable gloves
• nets
• ropes
• Fabric tarpaulins
• Decorative material
• Agricultural film
• Medical waste (e.g. disposable surgical gowns, infusion tubes, cannulas)

It is best to collect your packaging waste in a solid waste container and regularly tip this packaging material into your yellow garbage can. This will save plastic bags in the future and is a good contribution to environmental protection. If you don't want to do this, then collect the packaging waste in standard household transparent bin liners (e.g. 30 liters) and dispose of the filled bin liners in the yellow garbage can.

Do not dispose of opaque bags in the yellow garbage can! The wrong waste (e.g. residual waste, organic waste) may be hidden in opaque bags. The refuse collectors or sorting plant cannot check this. Modern sorting plants work with sensors, cameras and air pressure technology. The opaque bags massively disrupt these sorting processes. Items such as children's toys, plastic buckets, plastic bowls or toothbrushes are not financed via the dual system and therefore do not belong in the yellow garbage can. They are usually disposed of with the residual waste.

Yellow garbage cans with incorrect waste will not be emptied on the collection day. Property owners have the following options:

To re-sort the yellow garbage cans and only provide properly filled containers for the next emptying of the yellow garbage cans, or to order a chargeable special emptying as residual waste for the yellow garbage cans that have not been re-sorted at the following email address srbdispostadt.salzgitterde.

Fines may be imposed for repeated violations.

Under no circumstances may old electrical appliances be disposed of in the yellow garbage can. These can be taken to the disposal facility at the Diebesstieg landfill (Entsorgungszentrum Salzgitter GmbH Diebesstieg 50, 38229 Salzgitter). Incorrectly disposed electrical appliances with batteries can cause fires in the waste collection vehicles and facilities!

All packaging, regardless of any labeling, may be placed in the yellow garbage can. Paper packaging to the paper collection, glass packaging to the used glass container. Attention! Paper packaging belongs in the waste paper collection, glass packaging in the bottle bank.

No, the packaging does not need to be rinsed or completely cleaned before it is disposed of in the yellow garbage can. However, they should be spoon-clean or completely empty. This means that there should be no food residues or liquids left in the packaging.

No, we do not offer a cleaning service for the yellow garbage can.

If possible, please shred the packaging so that it fits into the yellow garbage can. If this is not possible, please take this large packaging to the disposal facility at the Diebesstieg landfill (Entsorgungszentrum Salzgitter GmbH Diebesstieg 50, 38229 Salzgitter) after prior online registration.

If the garbage can already appears full, the packaging may also be slightly compacted so that emptying is not impaired later. However, intensive re-compaction, especially with aids, must not take place.

The yellow garbage cans may be used from the time of delivery to households and must be placed at the nearest location that is easily accessible for waste collection vehicles by 6:00 a.m. at the latest on the respective collection day. Please place the garbage can with the handle facing the street ready for emptying to ensure smooth emptying.

The SRB Salzgitter does not provide a pick-up and drop-off service for yellow garbage cans from the properties to the kerbside and back.

No, please only use the official yellow garbage cans provided by SRB Salzgitter. Your own or private garbage cans are excluded from collection.

From 02.01.2026, only the yellow garbage cans will be emptied. The collection of yellow bags will then no longer be possible.

It may take some time to exchange garbage cans and take them back.

After the yellow garbage cans have been set up, it can happen that the number of bins required is different from what was originally planned - for example, in the case of large households or shared flats. In such cases, the owners or administrators of the property must notify us in writing of any change requests or additional orders.

Change requests or repeat orders for the yellow garbage can are ONLY possible after the initial distribution of the garbage cans.
