The politicians engaged in intensive discussions with the management of St. Elisabeth Hospital and representatives of the hospital's owners, toured the hospital and gained an impression of the hospital's performance in discussions with staff.
Both the council of the city of Salzgitter and the municipal representatives of the surrounding communities have already emphatically supported the replacement of the St. Elisabeth Hospital with resolutions and across party lines.
As representative of the city of Salzgitter, First City Councillor Christa Frenzel emphatically explained the importance of St. Elisabeth Hospital to the state politicians and underlined the city's intention to retain two hospital sites.
After the intensive discussions, hospital managing director Wolfgang Jitschin expressed his gratitude for the approval: "We are delighted with the unanimous and clear vote of support from the MPs and are confident that we will be able to realize the new replacement building."
The state politicians make it clear: "St. Elisabeth Hospital is an efficient hospital that is valued by the public. It is unacceptable that the good medical services and economic stability of the hospital should be jeopardized by the tactics of the state government."
Frenzel: "The city of Salzgitter will continue to need the St. Elisabeth Hospital to provide care for the citizens in the south of the city. The Ministry of Social Affairs is basing its plans on demographic assumptions that are clearly contradicted by current developments in Salzgitter. It is regrettable that these real developments have not been taken into account."
