There was much applause for this year's award winner: the SOS Mothers' Center received the integration prize of 1,000 euros from the Citizens' Service for Migrants and the city of Salzgitter.
Beforehand, Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel looked back on the intercultural week in his opening speech. Many clubs and organizations had put together a great deal. Everyone was invited to get to know other cultures through joint activities. Salzgitter is home to over 120 nations, which enriches the city. Integration has a very high priority in and for Salzgitter. Salzgitter has been Germany's first Respect City since 2011. The voluntary work of all those involved deserves special recognition. That is why the work of the integration guides, who advise and support people with a migration background in all situations, is so important.
This was also emphasized by Dincer Dinc. The coordinator of the integration guides from Lebenstedt gave the laudatory speech for the winner of the integration prize, which was awarded by the city of Salzgitter for the second time. The SOS Mothers' Center from Salzgitter-Bad received the award that evening from the Citizens' Service for Migrants and representatives of the City of Salzgitter's Education and Integration Department. Dincer Dinc said that there had been many suggestions for the integration prize. He also pointed out that integration is an easily uttered word, but nevertheless does not work so easily because there is no instruction manual for it. "It needs people who want it, who want it. For whom it is important how they live in their city and for whom it is important how their children grow up in the city in which they live," said Diner Dinc.
It is important to these people how they live together. Salzgitter is a shining example of where integration really works. Where it is embedded by people who want it and also by people who live it. The SOS Mothers' Center is this ray of hope in Salzgitter, which is unparalleled in Germany. With a brief look back at the history of the Mothers' Center, the coordinator of the integration guides referred to the special position and role model function of the Mothers' Center. The center also sets many accents in integration. This is why the committed staff received the 2014 Integration Award.
