This daycare center is the first "teaching kindergarten" in Salzgitter. Together with the operator, Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe, the city of Salzgitter is thus launching another important building block for ensuring and further developing quality in daycare centers.
The construction of the daycare center is an important building block for Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel in the design of his concept of a child and family-friendly learning city of Salzgitter and a nationally important highlight in the field of child daycare.
The name "Fredolino" was determined and chosen by the pupils of the BBS Fredenberg and the Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe.
The new day-care center has a total plot size of 3,500 square meters, of which around 1,000 square meters is the floor area of the building. The day-care center is planned for 95 children in the form of three crèche groups for 15 children each and two kindergarten groups for 25 children each.
Concept
An innovative and participatory concept, such as that found in Reggio pedagogy, is to be implemented in the daycare center. This means that the children should be able to develop individually and realize their own potential.
The following focal points are implemented there:
1. reggio (the focus is on promoting the children's strengths)
2. gender approach with a focus on "more men in daycare centers"
and teaching content
(Johanniter was able to recruit two men for the new seven-member daycare team).
3. language education
4. multicultural sensitization
It is a daycare center in the form of a model kindergarten and a training center for the vocational school for social pedagogy (FSP) of the BBS. The facility is to be integrated into the Fredenberg "school landscape" as a company daycare center for the schools. Joint projects between the school and the elementary sector will take place in both the daycare center and the vocational school. A stronger interlinking of theory and practice is planned.
Thanks to the close cooperation with the BBS Fredenberg and the vocational school for social pedagogy located there, it is now possible to provide lessons that are as close to everyday life as possible and long observation periods for prospective educators and social assistants.
The aim is to provide the best possible practical guidance for the prospective students and to teach or consolidate new approaches in the teaching at the vocational school for social pedagogy, such as gender education and multicultural care approaches. This is unique in the region!
Model kindergarten as a company daycare center
The day nursery provides childcare places for various institutions in Salzgitter, especially for the BBS Fredenberg. This measure is intended to bind young teachers to the Fredenberg school location and enable effective care for their young children. This promotes the attractiveness of Salzgitter as a school location and the Fredenberg/Lebenstedt school location in particular.
Construction costs
Wohnbau Salzgitter constructed and financed the daycare center building at a total cost of 2.6 million euros (including 110,000 euros in equipment costs). It is the owner of the building. The city of Salzgitter was able to obtain subsidies from the state of Lower Saxony amounting to EUR 634,500 for this project. 1,374,020 euros in loans came from the KfW funding program for municipal and social enterprises and a further 625,973 euros in loans from the KfW funding program for daycare expansion.
The state subsidy was passed on to Wohnbau by the city of Salzgitter, while the KfW loans were taken out by Wohnbau in its own name.
The city of Salzgitter has leased the building from Wohnbau for 30 years. The annual operating costs for the KiTa amount to approx. 600,000 euros for the city of Salzgitter.
