They therefore expect the state of Lower Saxony to create the essential basis for this by providing investment cost funding for St. Elisabeth Hospital.
On Tuesday, July 15, the administrative committee unanimously recommended that the council pass a resolution to this effect. It will be on the agenda of the city parliament on Wednesday, July 16.
St. Elisabeth Hospital has submitted an application to the state of Lower Saxony for investment cost funding for a new building in the amount of 28.4 million euros. A decision on this application is to be made by the hospital planning committee on 16.07.2014 and a recommendation made on which the state parliament will decide.
Without a new replacement building, there is a risk that the hospital will no longer be able to fulfill its care mandate in the medium term and that the site cannot be retained. The Lower Saxony Ministry for Social Affairs, Health and Equality also shares the view that the investment project is urgent and vital.
From the point of view of the Council and the Mayor of Salzgitter, high-quality hospital care close to home must be secured and maintained at the Salzgitter-Bad site.
Both the current, positive development in the number of Salzgitter residents and the already foreseeable medical requirements of demographic development make it clear that two hospital locations are needed in Salzgitter in the long term.
It is therefore essential that a decision is made in favor of St. Elisabeth Hospital to ensure its long-term existence. This is in the interests of both patients and the approximately 300 employees.
