Klingebiel remains Lord Mayor

Frank Klingebiel (CDU) is and will remain Lord Mayor of the city of Salzgitter. The incumbent prevailed in the direct election on May 25 with a provisional final result of 65 percent.

Sabine Fricke, who had been nominated as a non-party candidate by the SPD and Bündnis 90/Die Grünen, achieved 29.1%, Hermann Fleischer (Die Linke) 4.2% and the individual candidate Edward Majewski 1.6%.

Klingebiel can therefore continue to perform his duties as the city's highest representative until 2021. Voter turnout in this direct election was 45.4 percent.

In the Europawahl election, the SPD was Salzgitter's strongest political force with 40.9 percent. It was followed by the CDU (35.5%), the Greens and AFD (both 5.8%), the Die Linke (4.6%) and other smaller parties with between 1.7% and 0.5%.
