Salzgitter

Empty space is being beautified

The development of the retail trade is influenced to a large extent by demographic change, increasing internet retailing and structural change in the retail sector.

This applies to all cities, including Salzgitter, and regions in Germany.

In order to beautify a vacant space in the city center, Wirtschafts- und Innovationsförderung GmbH (WIS), in cooperation with the Salzgitter-Bad advertising association, has decorated the shop windows of a vacant store in Salzgitter-Bad and redesigned them with the help of information boards.

On these information boards, passers-by can trace the changes to the Bohlweg from 1899 onwards using unique historical photos.

"With this temporary use, we want to beautify a vacant space in the city center," says Reinhard Becker, Managing Director of the advertising association and trained decorator. "We are aware that this temporary use can only be a small part of our vacancy management," emphasizes Daniel Fiedler, City Manager at WIS.

"Above all, we try to raise people's awareness of the vacancy problem and the changes in the city through campaigns like this. In addition, we also actively combat vacancies, for example by creating vacancy and location exposés or offering specific support programs," continues Fiedler.
