Salzgitter

Frank Klingebiel new NST President

At its meeting on September 9 in the town hall of Varel, the Lower Saxony Association of Cities and Towns (NST) elected Frank Klingebiel, Mayor of Salzgitter, as President for two and a half years.

Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel.

The previous President, Ulrich Mädge, Lord Mayor of Lüneburg, was appointed Vice President in an alternating procedure.

The Presidium thus complied with an earlier agreement according to which the President is to be newly appointed in a municipal election period and alternately appointed by a representative of the SPD and CDU.

With this agreement, the Association of Cities and Towns of Lower Saxony wants to contribute to strengthening the municipal umbrella organization.

It also aims to ensure the politically neutral representation of the interests of 124 cities, municipalities and joint municipalities with around 4.5 million inhabitants as well as the Hanover region, the Greater Braunschweig special-purpose association and the seaside city of Bremerhaven as extraordinary members vis-à-vis the federal and state governments.
