Salzgitter

A different kind of vacation

The vacation adventure days offer 96 girls and boys many special features. There are still a few places left for the vacation week starting on August 10.

The heat is not as exhausting as the decision that 96 children have to make every day: Crafting, painting, action painting or playing soccer in the new human table football? Or maybe take them to the lake? The second week of the Salzgitter City Holiday Adventure Days (FETSZ) is currently taking place in the city park under the motto "Water Worlds".

"Everything is great," says Laura, who is having a glittery tattoo painted on her upper arm today. The ten-year-old has already attended the first week of the vacation adventure days, which included a variety of activities under the title "Colorful". There's always something going on here, it's fun, lots of other children are there to play and the food tastes good too... Ciara, who today prefers to sit in the shade and not play soccer with the others, agrees. The ten-year-old also always looks forward to the vacation adventure days organized by the children's and youth clubs of the Salzgitter Municipal Children and Youth Development Department. The vacation adventure days are three one-week childcare programs for up to 100 children aged between 6 and 12, which take place daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (program daily from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.). In addition to the various activities to match the theme worlds, there are other activities such as the bouncy castle, Slagline or a game of bowls in the city park.

Those who prefer to stay indoors can play billiards, table tennis and much more.
The vacation adventure days are supervised by staff from the Bambula, Hamberg, Forellenhof, Barum, Hallendorf, Gebhardshagen, Graffiti and Thiede children's and youth clubs (KJTs) as well as many volunteers from these facilities, so that there are always 16 supervisors on duty for the children.
The children also act as roving reporters: after each week of the vacation, the children produce the FETSZ newspaper, which can be taken home as a printed copy. The children enthusiastically report on their experiences in the first issue and also interview their supervisors. If you would like to read about this, you can take a look at the newspaper on the Internet.

Lunch is freshly prepared daily by the supervisors. Dishes such as vegetable kebab, ratatouille, cold bowl with rice pudding, spinach with potatoes and scrambled eggs, curry rice pan, wraps, cheese noodles with salad, wok vegetables and of course the classic pasta with tomato sauce are on the menu and provide variety. Transport is also organized. Transport will be provided for children from Salzgitter-Bad, Gebhardshagen, Barum, Hallendorf and Thiede. The program takes place in and at the Graffiti children's and youth club (KJT); in bad weather, there is the option of using the gym at the elementary school in Ostertal. The one-week vacation experiences cost 15 euros (the transport service costs 5 euros).
The third theme week will take place from August 10 to 14 under the motto "Experience Salzgitter". The program includes excursions to the Bismarck Tower in Salzgitter-Bad and the Salder quarry. The lion treasure in Lichtenberg will be explored, but there will also be salt boiling, wire jewelry making and baking together. A few places are still available for this leisure activity. Registrations can still be made at KJT Graffiti from Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. by calling 05341/42168 (contact persons are Dieter Holters and Ute Gundacker)
The special thing about this last week of this year's vacation adventure days will still be: great activities, reliable and good supervision, even if the parents still have to work. The children then just have to decide what they want to do for the whole day. Not that easy...
But one thing is certain: the vacation adventure days will be back next year.
