Salzgitter

Council meeting on December 1

The "Appeal of the Region" was adopted by the Salzgitter City Council on December 1, as the federal government in Berlin still wants to store nuclear waste in the Konrad mine against the interests of the people living here.

All local authorities in the entire region are affected by this. For this reason, representatives of the affected municipalities and members of parliament agreed on a joint regional approach in Salzgitter on October 16.

This "Appeal of the Region" will be adopted in all local parliaments involved in December.

It was triggered by the lack of transparency in the way the federal government is dealing with the future task of "disposal and storage of nuclear waste" when drawing up the so-called National Waste Management Program (NaPro).

The committee also approved the redesign of the public space between Kattowitzer Straße, Neißestraße and the town hall. The green spaces there are to be made even more generously perceptible as a recreational area.

The "Seeweg" is one of the most important public cycle and footpath connections in the Salzgitter-Lebenstedt district. It connects the city center with the Salzgittersee and leads
leads north to the BBS Ludwig-Erhard-Schule in Johann-Sebastian-Bach-Straße and beyond. These paths are used intensively, especially in the summer months.

The city parliament also adopted new bylaws for the volunteer fire department. Due to changes in the legal basis, a new model statute from the state and the elimination of two local fire departments, it had to be amended.

At the same time, the volunteer fire department worked internally in cross-district working groups on the topic of future-oriented positioning and, if necessary, reorganization.

An integration and sports base on the grounds of the Goethe School was also approved by the "Box-Club Tigers Salzgitter".
