Salzgitter

Plea for more togetherness

At the 7th Steinberg Dialogue in Goslar, Ulrich Markurth, Klaus Mohrs and Frank Klingebiel once again clearly advocated the coalescence of the metropolitan area.

The mayors of Braunschweig, Wolfsburg and Salzgitter increasingly see themselves as driving forces in the debate about the region. In view of the region's economic importance, they are calling for more funding from the state, particularly for local public transport.

Their common conviction is that the region has received too little regional funding in recent years compared to other parts of Lower Saxony. According to Markurth, Mohrs and Klingebiel, it is a big step forward that the three regional centers are no longer positioned against each other and see themselves as competitors.

It is the common intention that this should not stop at local public transport. Other cities and municipalities as well as the administrative districts would be involved in this process. The Zweckverband Großraum Braunschweig (ZGB), which is to form the organizational framework for the region, is also on the right track.

The Steinberg Dialogue above Goslar is now a traditional event that is held once a year for an open exchange of ideas and thoughts between representatives from business, politics and administration.
