This was officially decided by the Salzgitter City Council on July 22.
With the approval of the municipal parliament, all municipal sports and leisure activities are now united under one roof - with the following areas of responsibility:
Promotion of sport and leisure activities and facilities; further development of the Salzgittersee recreational area; health promotion; operation of the ice rink, the Thermalsolbad in Salzgitter Bad and the indoor/outdoor pool in Salzgitter-Lebenstedt.
General and up-to-date information on these topics can also be found on the City of Salzgitter website. The Salzgittersee page in particular is very popular. Other channels include Twitter, Google+, Facebook and YouTube.
If you want to do sport in Salzgitter, you will find a wide range on offer. Around 130 clubs offer around 40 types of sport, from soccer on the sports field to sailing on Salzgittersee.
There are also numerous free opportunities: Jogging, cycling, inline skating, hiking, swimming, diving, basketball, soccer, tennis and much more.
Recreation in the midst of nature is guaranteed on the Salzgitter mountain range with an optimal network of hiking trails that lead through dense mixed forests. Cyclists can also explore Salzgitter on well-maintained paths.
There is a complete sports and leisure program from horse riding and tennis to gliding and golf, gyms and indoor and outdoor swimming pools offer something for everyone interested in sports.
The ice rink on Salzgittersee is a top address for ice hockey, figure skating and curling. There are many ways to enjoy yourself on the ice here.
From top-class ice skating shows with national and international stars to leisurely curling and sporty ice skating for everyone.
The ice rink will be open again for skaters from the end of September.
Salzgittersee, with its 75 hectares and a north-south extension of 2120 meters (regatta course), is considered a spot for sailors, surfers, rowers and canoeists. Of course, you can also "just" swim in its waves and sunbathe and jog on the miles of sandy beaches and green spaces.
One of the most pleasant baths between the Harz Mountains and the heath is the Thermalsolbad. The healing effects of the valuable thermal calcium sulphate brine are used to treat all kinds of musculoskeletal disorders and many skin problems.
The indoor/outdoor pool in Lebenstedt combines an indoor pool that is open all year round and an outdoor pool that is available during the summer months. The swimming pool in Thiede, which is run by a private association, is also a combination of indoor and outdoor pools. The forest swimming pool in Gebhardshagen is also privately run.
In addition, numerous events invite you to get to know and try out new sports. These include the New Year's Eve run, the Volkstriathlon, the dragon boat race and the torchlight swim.
