Salzgitter

Salzgitter is becoming increasingly attractive

The population of Salzgitter has been steadily increasing in small steps since mid-2013. In March 2016 alone, over 300 more people moved in than moved out.

The positive trend has now been officially confirmed by the State Statistical Office.

On the reporting date of 30.09.15, the State Office for Statistics published the official population figure of 100,365 for Salzgitter. "Proof that the city's active family and education policy is starting to show results," says Mayor Frank Klingebiel.

Investments in education and families, complete exemption from daycare fees and consistent refurbishment of schools are just some of the parameters. More and more people are deciding to live in Salzgitter. The number of people moving in has exceeded the number moving out for two years now.

The Lebenstedt, Thiede and Bad districts in particular have seen population growth. This is mainly due to the good infrastructure and connections to Braunschweig. In Lebenstedt, shopping in the city center is within walking distance of various service centers, such as the town hall, city library, post office and land registry office. The Salzgittersee recreation center is also in the immediate vicinity.

The high demand in Salzgitter is also noticeable in the building areas: There are currently more than 1,300 inquiries for around 400 building plots. In addition to Baulandförderung, there are also free kindergartens. As a result, many families with children are building their own homes in Salzgitter.

Demographic change as a challenge for the future was the reason for the "Salzgitter 2020" guidelines developed by Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel. As early as September 2013, 14 working groups established in an interim assessment that Salzgitter had achieved a great deal on its path.
