Salzgitter

Crossroads has a new name

The intersection where Industriestraße Mitte, Heinrich-Büssing-Straße, Eisenhüttenstraße and Linke-Hoffmann-Busch-Straße meet is now called the "Metalworkers' Crossroads".

The intersection in Watenstedt has a new name.

In February, the city council approved the suggestion of the local council of the district of Ost, and facts have now been created with the installation of the corresponding sign. Also present were the municipal director Simone Kessner, Peter Ramacher (SPD), Klaus Poetsch, Hans Verstegen (both CDU), Stefan Roßmann (MBS) and Kamil Gömleksiz (Die Linke) from the council's parliamentary groups, as well as Hans-Jürgen Urban from the board of IG Metall, Brigitte Runge from the board of IG Metall Salzgitter-Peine and Andreas Blechner, the works council chairman of the VW plant in Salzgitter.

The local council of the town of Ost had justified its proposal to name the intersection with the fact that Salzgitter is an industrial town with numerous metalworking companies, most of which are located near the intersection. In addition, the intersection is often used as a meeting and demonstration site during collective bargaining negotiations. The name for the intersection should be a tribute to the employees, who are an important pillar of the city of Salzgitter, the local council had formulated.
