Urban development funding in Germany is a joint project of the federal government, the federal states and local authorities. In the 40 years of its existence, it has proven to be a success story of integrated urban development when the tackling of particular problems has required additional support for local authorities from the federal and state governments.
There are currently around 1,800 development areas throughout Germany in which urban development funding is used. However, this instrument of urban development, without which many an upgrading of urban districts would not have been possible, is little known to the public. This is set to change with an annual "Urban Development Day" in May.
In Salzgitter, this day will be celebrated during the Spring Festival on Saturday, May 21 in the Seeviertel district. In addition to the many offers of the spring festival, such as sports and games for the whole family, an extensive stage program, art and craft activities, a varied culinary program is provided.
In addition, there will be two special district tours on the topic of urban redevelopment in the Seeviertel at 1 pm and 3 pm. The start is at the "SeeviertelTreff" (Riesentrapp 18). It is not necessary to register for the one-hour tour.
Next year, the "Urban Development Day" will then take place in one of the partner districts (Ost- and Westsiedlung or Steterburg) in order to showcase a different urban development district in Salzgitter each year.
