On the C&A side, there will be an asphalt roadway with three lanes (one in the direction of the train station, one in the direction of the town hall and a long left-turn lane in the direction of the town hall). In addition, paved parking lanes as well as cycle paths and footpaths will be created on both sides.
On the Globushaus side, there will be a spacious pedestrian promenade into which so-called tactile guiding strips will be integrated. These guiding strips will provide better orientation for the visually impaired thanks to their own surface structure.
36 trees, lights, benches, bicycle stands and other furniture round off the ambience. As part of the construction work, the wastewater and rainwater drains (by ASG) and the supply lines for gas, drinking water and electricity (by WEVG) will also be renewed.
To ensure that traffic can flow during the entire construction period, the C&A side will be upgraded first and then the Globushaus side.
The renovations meant a significant upgrade of the public space. The reduction in lanes from the current four to two is expected to shift some of the traffic onto Kattowitzer Straße and thus out of the city center.
