To mark the start, Mayor Stefan Klein joined Walter Strauß (Managing Director of Bäder, Sport und Freizeit GmbH), Clemens Löcke (Chairman of the Supervisory Board), Tim Lolies (Deputy Chairman), other members of the Supervisory Board and children from the St. Markus daycare center to break ground on August 9.
"The modernization of the indoor outdoor pool is a special project for the entire city," emphasized Klein. As is well known, the indoor outdoor pool, which dates back to the 1960s, is to be converted into a modern and attractive pool.
Klein: "I am sure that we will have a great, modern swimming pool after the renovation work. Anyone who has ever taken a look at the plans will certainly not recognize our old indoor/outdoor pool. We can all look forward to it."
According to Klein, the renovation is deliberately being carried out in two construction phases in order to keep restrictions to a minimum. The indoor pool can therefore continue to be used from August 23 until the end of 2017.
The new water areas will then be available to guests from January 2018. The rest of the renovation and refurbishment work should then be completed in December 2018.
