Salzgitter

Climate savings on a small scale

A special climate premiere: For the first time in Salzgitter, there is a climate savings book. The handy 112-page booklet contains lots of tips on saving energy and climate vouchers.

For Michael Tacke, City Councillor for Building, Urban Planning, Transport and the Environment, the Climate Savings Book is another building block in the city of Salzgitter's climate protection activities.

The Climate Savings Book is part of the climate protection concept adopted by the city council in 2014. The Climate Savings Book has been published in a print run of 8,000 copies, comprises 112 pages and costs 4.95 euros. The value of all vouchers is more than 500 euros. The Climate Savings Book is available in the Citizens' Centers of the City of Salzgitter in Lebenstedt and Salzgitter-Bad and can be ordered in bookshops.

The Climate Savings Book provides an overview of the ecological and fair offers in Salzgitter and the region and promotes sustainable shopping with vouchers. The voucher section contains discounts in selected stores and services. The aim is to provide incentives for climate-friendly consumption.

19 associations, initiatives and companies from Salzgitter, the region and beyond offer their climate-friendly products or services with vouchers in the Climate Savings Book. Discounts and small gifts are included (for example: WIS cycling map set and SZ hiking map at a preferential price of 5 euros; 10 percent discount on all products from the "Vollkornladen" Salzgitter).

The vouchers are valid until the end of 2017. At the same time, companies can use this publication to draw attention to their contribution to climate protection.

In addition, practical tips on climate protection in everyday life (e.g. correct heating) are also published in the climate savings book. The aim is to show how simple climate-friendly behavior can be. The aim is to motivate people to act in a climate-friendly way. "With the climate savings book, we want to give citizens various suggestions," emphasizes Michael Tacke. At the same time, the vouchers also reward active action.

The costs for the city of Salzgitter are around 28,200 euros.

The climate savings book is a further component of the city of Salzgitter's climate protection activities. In addition, the administration is working closely with politicians, businesses and schools to get further projects off the ground. Those responsible are proud of the fact that there are already three school forests in Salzgitter, where young people can learn about nature in a very concrete way and practice active climate protection.

Also this year, those responsible are planning an energy consultation service to advise citizens on all questions relating to energy and housing. In addition, the thermography night walk, which met with great interest, is to be repeated. With the help of a thermal imaging camera, participants were able to see how energy is lost in unrenovated buildings.
