Together for the region

Under the motto "The future begins in the mind", the unique interaction between research, science and business in the Braunschweig - Salzgitter - Wolfsburg region was discussed.

Braunschweig's Lord Mayor Ulrich Markurth welcomed over 350 guests to the Parliamentary Evening at the TIPI am Kanzleramt in Berlin.

Research and science are the foundation of a region's competitiveness and attractiveness as a business location. This was underlined by scientists, entrepreneurs and politicians from Germany's strongest research region at the Parliamentary Evening on September 29 in Berlin.

In front of over 350 guests, they took stock and at the same time ventured a look into the future of the region around the cities and districts of Braunschweig, Gifhorn, Goslar, Helmstedt, Peine, Salzgitter, Wolfenbüttel and Wolfsburg.

The declared aim is and remains to develop the economic area into a reference region for work and quality of life. According to Eurostat, the Braunschweig - Salzgitter - Wolfsburg region is one of the best in Europe in terms of research and development intensity. Science, research and development take place here at four universities as well as in companies and renowned research institutions.

Mobility research and business, which has numerous interfaces with other fields of knowledge and application, forms the core of the region's economic and research power. However, the steel, IT, finance and chemicals sectors are also strongly represented.

The Parliamentary Evening of the Alliance for the Region GmbH took place for the third time in Berlin. The aim is to promote the location to political decision-makers.

Braunschweig's Lord Mayor Ulrich Markurth also referred to this in his welcoming address: "Our region combines the advantages of strong science, research and business and also scores with short distances and cooperation based on partnership. It is predestined to develop into a technologically smart Zukunftsregion." The close integration of all social players is the key to success.

Mayor Frank Klingebiel added for Salzgitter: "We want to remain sustainably competitive and fit for the future as the third regional center in the region, side by side with Braunschweig and Wolfsburg. We can achieve this with a balance between innovative business and attractive living conditions and, above all, through joint commitment." He continues: "Salzgitter is growing and, in addition to interesting jobs, offers an attractive residential environment, modern daycare centers and schools, living in the countryside, Salzgittersee and much more."
