"We've had the idea for some time," explains Bettina Buttke, deputy principal of the Altstadtschule. Children should be given the opportunity to lock their bikes. This allows parents to bring their children to school by bike instead of by car. In addition, primary school children who have successfully passed their bike test can lock their bikes. There will also be a cycling event at the school in the spring. "We are very pleased that the implementation worked out so quickly," said the deputy principal, thanking everyone involved.
The implementation took place via Carsten Bauerochse, ideas and complaints officer at the city of Salzgitter, and with the involvement of the SRB and the in-house facility management, purchasing and logistics department. "There was an on-site meeting to check whether the site was suitable and to clarify how the bike racks could be professionally installed," said Carsten Bauerochse, Ideas and Complaints Officer at the City of Salzgitter. The costs amounted to 1,480 euros. The Förderverein Altstadtschule e.V. donated 500 euros. "The children are getting on well with the bike racks," says Jessica Renz, a member of the Altstadtschule Salzgitter e.V. support association and teacher at the Altstadtschule. She hopes that more parents will now bring their children to school by bike.
