"This project is also a first in the cooperation between us as a city and the Noah church community. We are also sending out an important signal for the eastern and western districts and therefore also for the people of Salzgitter," emphasized Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel. With this signing, the parties involved are creating a new contact point in the neighborhood, which must be filled with content by the citizens. "It will be another milestone in turning the district into a lively neighborhood." The Lord Mayor thanked everyone involved for their commitment to this collaboration.
The "House of Encounter and Movement" completes the center of the east and west housing estate, which was modernized during the urban renewal process, and complements the existing uses, such as the KunterBund daycare centre, the Roxy-Helco playground and the NOW district meeting place. This supports the City of Salzgitter's strategic goal of making the east and west estates more child and family-friendly. This will create special unifying perspectives and opportunities for the future of the district for the integration and coexistence of different cultures and the involvement of all generations. Space will be created that can be used in a variety of ways and will also close gaps in the offer. "The decisive factor is a house open to many."
Michael Tacke, City Councillor for Building, Urban Planning, Urban Development and the Environment, emphasized that the "House of Encounter and Movement" is a space that is fundamentally open to all interested parties in the neighbourhood, which encourages initiative and can therefore create something new. The conversion will provide local stakeholders with new multifunctional spaces. The socio-cultural projects and educational programs are to be continued and supplemented by sports activities for senior citizens and families. The conversion is to begin as soon as possible. The opening is planned for 2018. "Alongside a new daycare center, the House of Encounter and Movement will be the most important project in the east and west estates in the coming years."
