Currently, 65 girls and boys aged between eight months and six years attend the daycare center. The "Helifanten" daycare center is the second facility operated by the "Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe" in Salzgitter. Since January 2014, it has been looking after a total of 88 children at the "Fredolino" daycare center, a teaching daycare center on Fredenberg.

However, the "Helifanten" daycare center has a unique selling point: it is the first daycare center in Lower Saxony to offer reliable and flexible childcare 365 days a year - including weekends and public holidays.

Overnight care is available if required. Since August 1, childcare has been available from 6 am to 7 pm. The times are to be extended to the 24-hour care concept at a later date.

The Johanniter daycare center at Kattowitzer Straße 195 can care for 115 girls and boys. 85 places are reserved for children from the city of Salzgitter. 30 places can be allocated to children who have a connection to the hospital. At the moment, nine places are occupied by children of employees of the clinic. Five more children have already been registered and will be allocated a place in the coming months.
