They jointly note that there is undeniably a significantly above-average burden on Salzgitter in this respect. They understood the very constructive discussion as a prelude to clarifying further issues, which is to take place over the next six weeks.
- In view of Salzgitter's particular burden, the state has promised to examine the content of a residency requirement (which limits further immigration) in detail. The city of Salzgitter will provide the necessary material to justify this in detail.
- Within the scope of its possibilities, the state will, on the one hand, examine general financial support for Salzgitter to overcome the challenges of integration policy. In addition, the state and the city have agreed to examine the existing funding instruments in a joint working process to determine how Salzgitter can receive further support in this situation. Concrete results can also be expected within the aforementioned period, which will then be evaluated by both sides.
- In addition to overcoming integration policy challenges, the aim will also be to strengthen the economic power of the city of Salzgitter in the long term and sustainably. The state and the city of Salzgitter have agreed on a close working process for this purpose, with which project-related activities are to be developed that serve to support the prospects of the city as a whole.
Salzgitter is clearly the municipality most affected by integration policy challenges among the municipalities in Lower Saxony. Nevertheless, the requirements of other municipalities in Lower Saxony will also be examined by the state if necessary.
