The administration had commissioned the Economic Development Agency (WIS) to carry out an analysis in this regard. The results of the preliminary final report can be summarized as follows:
For local retailers, it seems to be essential for successful development to present themselves even more in the virtual world. However, the actual performance of online marketplaces cannot yet be assessed.
The appointment of a "caretaker" by WIS would be necessary to provide retailers with support in setting up and maintaining the online marketplace. It would also be necessary to advertise the offer accordingly in order to inform potential customers. This in turn would entail costs. Expenses could also be incurred by retailers for setting up the necessary requirements, such as an internet connection.
Three different providers (atalanda, Einkaufshelden and ebay) were examined by WIS.
As the three advertising associations in Salzgitter (Werbegemeinschaft Salzgitter-Bad e.V., Werbegemeinschaft CityLebenstedt e.V. and Kaufmannschaft Gerbhardshagen) do not agree on setting up an online marketplace, it has not yet been possible to find a single provider.
The willingness of retailers in Salzgitter to participate is divided. There is both a certain demand for the local online marketplace and retailers who show little or no interest in the project.
The WIS therefore recommends refraining from setting up its own internet platform and instead professionalizing the websites of the advertising associations, whereby the WIS could provide support.
In addition, the development of the TU Braunschweig's Einkaufshelden project (regional project in Region 38) should be awaited, which will continue to be supported by WIS. It is not yet possible to forecast specific costs for this.
