Innovations at the Mobility Day

Segway rides, testing electric bikes or information about electric cars: many visitors took part in the Mobility Day "Bringing electric mobility to life", which took place for the second time after 2016 as part of European Mobility Week.

City planning officer Michael Tacke welcomed local mayor Werner Müller and the other visitors. He thanked the partners who, together with the city of Salzgitter, had initiated an extensive program on the town hall forecourt. Many visitors took the opportunity to obtain information from the various contacts on site. Various electric vehicles were available to look at and touch. The "silent" Segway rides on a small WEVG course were very popular.

The Advisory Council for People with Disabilities was there for the first time, presenting its mobility options. It was also a premiere for the ADFC Salzgitter.

Another novelty this year was that the Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences and the KVG offered a joint program to the students of the senior classes of the Salzgitter grammar schools and the IGS. Ostfalia had invited students to lectures and discussions in addition to the lessons in the schools.

KVG then drove the pupils to the town hall square free of charge in its new electric bus to enable them to take part in the activities.

Volkswagen came specially with an event team from the Transparent Factory in Dresden and offered interested parties an accompanied drive in an electrically powered Golf and Passat. Another team from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles in Hanover presented an adapted Caddy and bus, which also allow people with disabilities to take part in road traffic. Visitors were able to try out getting in and out of the vehicle and operating it themselves under expert guidance.

The police not only gave driving tips and advice on safe use in road traffic, but also showed their electrically powered vehicle fleet, with which they are leading by example.

The following project partners were involved in the implementation of the Mobility Day

  • ADFC Salzgitter as a promoter of (electric) mobility by bicycle
  • Autohaus Strube / Radstudio Salzgitter as a dealer and promoter of electric mobility
  • Advisory board of people with disabilities as experts in barrier-free mobility

  • Ostfalia - University of Applied Sciences as a research and training institution in the field of transportation
  • Salzgitter police - distraction in road traffic, cycling safety, e-vehicles in public traffic areas
  • Volkswagen and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, represented by the Salzgitter engine plant as a manufacturer of electric vehicles
  • WEVG as local energy supplier and provider of the e-charging infrastructure
