Mayor Frank Klingebiel emphasizes this.
He adds: "Yesterday, I proposed to the Salzgitter City Council that a new four-group daycare center be built on the former site of the Grundschule am See elementary school in Salzgitter-Lebenstedt. With this new building project, we will create an additional 90 kindergarten places and 15 crèche places." The council is to decide on this project at its meeting on 26.09.2018.
"The compatibility of family and career, good childcare and social peace in our city are particularly important to me. These areas continue to be a focus of my work," adds the Lord Mayor.
The total investment costs for the daycare center amount to €2,938,700, with the city's share amounting to €2,000,050. The annual operating costs are estimated at around € 681,300.
"We have budgeted for state funding totaling €938,650. 758,650 is to be paid from the integration fund and € 180,000 from the Ministry of Culture. In addition to the annual operating costs, we receive an annual personnel cost subsidy from the state of currently 55 percent for the three kindergarten groups. However, the state support in the nursery sector is not enough to meet the particular challenges faced by the city of Salzgitter due to the influx of refugees. I expect the state to make improvements here as quickly as possible," concludes Mayor Klingebiel.
