Planned expansion of the Ringelheim daycare center

On-site visit with Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel: Planning for the daycare center expansion in Ringelheim continues at full speed.

"This will be a successful project from which our children will benefit massively," said Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel at an on-site meeting on May 25, 2018 regarding the planned expansion of the Ringelheim daycare center.

He presented the plans for the expansion of the daycare center and pointed out the urgent need for action on site. On the one hand, there is a massive lack of space in the daycare center itself, and on the other, there is a lack of nursery and daycare places throughout the city.

Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel assesses the situation on site with the words "the daycare center in Ringelheim is bursting at the seams". "There is an urgent need for action here," he continued, explaining the city administration's draft resolution. This is currently being discussed in the city council committees and will be decided on by the Salzgitter City Council in May.

Conceptually, an expansion of the facility is planned in two construction phases. The premises of the crèche are to be separated from those of the daycare center. Once completed, the daycare groups will move into an extension to the neighboring elementary school. The clear advantage of this plan is that the elementary school and the daycare center will then be directly adjacent. "This makes educational sense," emphasized Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel. The existing premises will be converted and used by the crèche.

The city is growing and has an enormous need for childcare. There is currently a shortage of 412 daycare places and 172 crèche places in the city. "The expansion of the Ringelheim daycare center is intended to cover the demand in the Ringelheim area," explained Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel. Present at the site visit were the head of the daycare center, Christine Bätjer, the principal of the elementary school, Karin Schilling, and the chairpersons of the church council, Ute Cramm and Pastor Jürgen Grote.

The total cost of the extension is 2.28 million euros. The conversion of the existing building will cost an additional 195,000 euros. The annual operating costs will amount to around 520,000 euros.
