Salzgitter

Klingebiel sets course for cultural funding

The cultural life of the city of Salzgitter is broadly based. It is decisively shaped by the cultural activities of the citizens and the groups and associations they support.

Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel

Mayor Frank Klingebiel is fully committed to ensuring that the city of Salzgitter supports this voluntary work where a great deal is achieved throughout the year.

"Of course we can't fulfill every wish," says Klingebiel, "but in view of the still tight budget situation, we are doing quite well in terms of cultural funding." Cultural associations and initiatives without contractual obligations - i.e. those that are not institutionally funded - receive a total of over 38,000 euros annually from the city of Salzgitter. In 2018, this will be used to subsidize the activities of 30 associations. This makes it easier for clubs and groups to organize an anniversary, a public cultural event or a procurement measure.

Of course, Frank Klingebiel emphasizes that he will ensure that the available funds are distributed appropriately so that the political bodies and ultimately the administrative committee of the city of Salzgitter can follow his proposed resolution with a broad majority. "Overall," explains the Lord Mayor, "this commitment by the city of Salzgitter has met with a lively response and is gladly accepted and recognized by the committed citizens."

On the one hand, the diverse civic commitment requires appropriate recognition. On the other hand, this active financial support from the city of Salzgitter is also necessary, emphasizes Frank Klingebiel. Last but not least, it plays a decisive role in making many a project possible. Associations and groups that would like to take advantage of this funding must, in addition to submitting their application on time, meet the funding criteria set by the Salzgitter City Council.

"The spectrum of cultural commitment in Salzgitter reflects an incredible range," says the Lord Mayor happily. "Art and literature can be found in Salzgitter's cultural landscape, as can media professionals. History also wants to be preserved and historically valuable properties maintained and even used. There are also many bands, choirs, brass bands, marching bands, folk dancers and traditional costume groups, to name just a few."
