Salzgitter

Business development from a single source

In order to avoid duplication of responsibilities, Wirtschafts- und Innovationsförderung GmbH (WIS) will be more closely linked to the city administration. The Salzgitter City Council was informed of this on August 29.

With the departure of the current Managing Director of WIS, Thomas Wetzel, on December 31, 2019, the task of "Managing Director of WIS" is to be transferred as a full-time position to the future Head of Department V "Cultural Affairs, Economy, Digital" on January 1, 2020.

Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel emphasizes: "I am revisiting my considerations at the time against the backdrop of the increased demands of the economy on the performance of municipal tasks and the now changed majority situation in the Council."

As is well known, Klingebiel had already dealt with the reorganization of the municipal companies in 2010. His proposal at the time was aimed at improving the organization of the municipal companies and in particular their connection to the city as a shareholder. Possible financial savings and synergy effects were also examined. However, the proposals were rejected by a majority of the council in January 2011.

"Particularly in view of the avoidance of duplication of responsibilities, a stronger link between business development and the city administration and the associated optimization of the performance of tasks and personnel cost savings at management level, it now appears to be expedient to entrust the future Head of Department V with the role of Managing Director at WIS as part of the main office," Klingebiel clarifies.

According to the Lord Mayor, the reorganization of the administration will result in total personnel cost savings of around 75,000 euros per year from 1 January 2020. Klingebiel: "By June 30, 2019, the administration will have initiated the necessary measures to further implement the restructuring of the "Konzern Stadt"."
