At this first information event, Andreas Reichelt, deputy head of the education department, presented the key points of the implementation of the digital pact. Starting from a base amount of 30,000 euros for each school, a per-pupil amount will be added. A prerequisite for the application by the city of Salzgitter as the school authority is the development of a media education concept by the respective school and an overarching media development concept by the city of Salzgitter. With regard to the use of the funding, it must also be noted that the focus is primarily on expanding the digital infrastructure in the schools (e.g. WLAN) and not on the procurement of end devices.
An important task as part of the Digital Pact for Schools is the expansion of broadband connections in schools. Kai Stocks from the Department for Economic, Association and European Affairs gave a presentation on this. The aim is to achieve a connection speed of at least one gigabyte per second. Federal and state funding is also available for this, with the local authority contributing 25 percent. The expansion of the broadband architecture is to be implemented over a period of around two years, depending on the telecom providers and funding bodies.
In the third part of the event, Susan Bastian, head of the municipal information technology department, informed the participants about the IT implementation of the digital pact.
