This year, the state of Lower Saxony will once again grant particularly financially weak municipalities a subsidy totaling around 52 million euros in the form of needs-based grants. Needs-based grants are separate financial resources within the municipal financial equalization scheme that the Ministry of the Interior provides to particularly financially weak municipalities upon application in order to strengthen their financial power.Interior Minister Boris Pistorius informed Mayor Frank Klingebiel in Hanover on 27 June 2019 that the city of Salzgitter will also receive a further €5 million.
Salzgitter receives needs-based allocation
Salzgitter will receive a further 5 million euros as a needs-based allocation and 4.3 million euros as integration funds. Mayor Klingebiel sees the signal from the state capital as "another step in the right direction".
