In a letter dated May 6, 2019, the Ministry of the Interior and Sport (MI) approved the City of Salzgitter's budget statutes for 2019 and 2020 without restriction. For the first time during Mayor Klingebiel's term of office, the budget was adopted as a so-called double budget at the December meeting of the Salzgitter City Council. The Ministry of the Interior once again granted its approval without any restrictions immediately before the statutory deadline expired, thus rewarding the extensive efforts made by the council and mayor to consolidate the city's budget.

"The state has recognized Salzgitter's special situation, and with the unrestricted budget approval it also acknowledges that all stakeholders are working responsibly and to the best of their ability to counteract the financial imbalance," says Lord Mayor Klingebiel.
