A lot has been happening in the background over the last year and a half, but now this development is finally becoming visible.
Mayor Frank Klingebiel announces: "The owners of the burnt-down houses in Marktstraße in Salzgitter-Bad received the notices of exemption from the preservation order for their burnt ruins at the end of last week. This means that they can now start demolition work in the near future. I am delighted that this eyesore in our historic old town will finally be removed."
He continued: "In consultation with the municipal housing company Wohnbau Salzgitter GmbH, I will present the new construction plans to the relevant specialist committees and the South Local Council for discussion and to the Salzgitter City Council for a decision at the end of 2020/beginning of 2021. As a precautionary measure, I have included €100,000 as a one-off construction cost subsidy to städtische Wohnbau Salzgitter GmbH in my 2021 draft budget for the additional costs of aligning the new construction project with the historic façade if these cannot be generated through future rental income."
